Art is nourished by history and history is nourished by art. However, in this reciprocity, important actors for their constitution are left out; people who provide depth, reality and veracity to the events that take place around the works.
In the artpiece we find the representation of otherness through a customary prism, with the aim of freeing it from the subjectivities that stain it. Gigi, on the one hand, tells us about that essential other in art, while the Cosmopussy Collective shows us how in the historical context the other is silenced. They are two invisible but necessary entities, intrinsic to the very existence of the works that exclude them.
These two pieces give them voice.
On the one hand, «Autogestión« (2022) by Gigi Ei (esp) makes this hidden work visible, showing us how tasks such as picking up, ordering and cleaning, which are always carried out after each event, do not have the glamor of an opening, although they are equally or more important.
According to Gigi, self-management in the cultural sector means knowing a little about everything, since sooner or later it will be useful.
The artist also alludes to the satisfaction produced by repetitive and homogeneous actions, seeking precisely to convey this sensation. The piece also makes a small allusion to structural cinema where the same movement is repeated all the time until it almost hypnotizes the viewer.
The the exhibition of the participatory video performance «Tu memoria, nuestra historia» (2022), which reflects on the construction of history and the role representation plays in it. What stories and voices are heard? Who issues speech and who are relegated to the place of being represented by others?
The Cosmopussy Collective, Kaos Play and Jesús Placencia (esp) addressed these issues in an immersive sound and visual co-creation experience in which attendees are invited to participate via audio and video. With this proposal we want to elevate the viewer to the place of creator and agent of representation, breaking the border between subject and object. Thus, the anonymous stories and bodies that are normally left out of the performance will be predisposed in an essential piece to complete the artwork, and the story.
