Screening of the documentary piece 28 Nights and a Poem (1:04:44) by the committed Lebanese artist Akram Zaatari.

Akram Zaatari’s latest film, ”28 Nights and a Poem,” explores the work of photographer Hashem el Madani, who has run a commercial photography studio in southern Lebanon for the past five decades. After spending years photographing people in front of their stores, in public squares or on the beach, Madani opened the studio in response to his community’s desire to appear on camera. Moving between el Madani’s studio in Saïda and the Arab Image Foundation (an image archive in Beirut that now houses the bulk of el Madani’s photographic collection), the film examines the changing locations, status and function of the photographic practice and preservation through various analog and digital media.
