Irit Batsry es una artista que trabaja principalmente en video e instalaciones. Su obra se ha exhibido extensamente en 35 países diferentes. En 2002 recibió el prestigioso Whitney Biennial Bucksbaum Award, otorgado a “un(a) artista cuyo trabajo demuestra una combinación única de talento e imaginación — una persona que promete hacer una contribución significativa a las artes visuales”. Obtuvo la beca Guggenheim en 1992 y el Gran Premio Video de Création de la Société Civile des Auteurs Multimedia en París (1996 y 2001), junto a numerosos otros galardones como: Gran Premio en Locarno 1990 y 1995; Primer Premio en Vigo 1994 y 2001; Primer Premio en el Australian Video Festival 1989; y Primer Premio en el San Francisco Poetry Film Festival 1989.

Sus exposiciones más representativas incluyen: la National Gallery en Washington; el National Film Theater y el ICA en Londres; el Museo Reina Sofía en Madrid; el Museu d’Arte Moderna en Río; el Museo Ludwig en Colonia; el Museo de Tel Aviv; Artists Space, el Whitney y el MOMA en Nueva York. En 2006, el Jeu de Paume (París) organizó una retrospectiva de sus videotapes (1981–2006).

Sus videotapes han sido adquiridos por museos y seleccionados para festivales internacionales como Río (1987, 1990), Berlín (1988, 1990, 1992, 1996), Londres (1987, 1991, 1996, 2000), Montreal (1987, 1988, 1994, 1996, 1997), Bonn (1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996), Ginebra (1989, 1991, 1993, 1995), Oberhausen (1992, 1996) y Róterdam (2000). También fueron difundidos en canales como PBS (Channel 13, KQED), La Sept, WDR y ARTE.
