Typical Venezuelan Breakfast

“Typical Venezuelan Breakfast” is a performance video in which Ochoa appears eating a gun-shaped arepa while narrating in voiceover a traumatic episode from her adolescence: a kidnapping at age 15 in which a gun was shoved into her mouth. The work intertwines the everyday with violence, food with the gun, and the national with the intimate, in a gesture that confronts the normalization of violence in Venezuela through an image charged with tension and ambiguity.
