María y los espíritus invites a rite in the form of a phantasmagoria. In this exhibition, the family archive works as a medium that seeks to stage characters that are embodied in light and movement; spectral beings that inhabit three-dimensional space, incorporating the viewer into a diffuse sheet between the reality of the documentary, fiction and the performative, in an attempt to generate an ancestral dialogue through the possession of a magical image.
The work investigates family archives filmed by Fernando Aguirre Tupper, grandfather of the filmmaker Nicolás Superby Aguirre, between the years 1930 and 1940, in 8mm, in Santiago de Chile, where family and friends would gather to film home movies, in a playful and amateur.

The project contemplates resignifying this archive taking as its main axis the figure of María Tupper, Chilean artist and spiritist, who through her letters and intimate diaries questioned the family and political environment and sought through art and the spiritual path other possible worlds both in the earthly as in the mystical, getting to join group 7, the most recognized spiritualist group in the region. Through a series of videos that she looks for in the traces of the passage of time, and in the deterioration of said material, a new aesthetic and expressive sense that stages unpublished material of family and patrimonial value as a projection installation. multiple.
