Over the past three decades, Nives Widauer (*1965 in Basel, Switzerland) has developed a diverse oeuvre that includes video works, installations, and sculptures as well as paintings, drawings, and collages. Her artistic approach is characterized by the interpenetration of different media and techniques.

Her art of recontextualization functions as a catalyst, transforming familiar elements into striking constellations, infiltrating and reactivating their materiality and expressive content, their physical and metaphysical potential, with her own unique formal language. In the artist’s work, subjective ideas, autobiographical moments, cultural-historical references, art-historical topoi, history and stories, social rituals, memories, and language merge into individual mythologies. In doing so, Widauer always touches on overarching, existential questions, and her art is always committed to holistic thinking.
