The Resistance of the Rhizome

The Resistance of the Rhizome is an interactive video game, presented in video and VR experience. The work departs from colonized cities and bodies, as well as systems of domination that emerged from it. The project entangles these colonial histories with the current discourses around public health and post-epidemic. It aims to propose other considerations for understanding and imagining the resistance post the next transformation. Through absorbing the present and looking at maps and documents from the past, The Resistance of the Rhizome allows for a different future visualization of systems of domination while simultaneously putting forward the question: what will happen if we imagine the resistance first.

This project was commissioned as part of the Internet of Things: Another World is Possible exhibition project organised by Darat al Funun-The Khalid Shoman Foundation.

For its presentation in Speculative Imaginaries program, the artist has provided the documentation of a full game played by himself with all the possibilities and unpredictability of playing a single round.
