“NATURALES” (2016) talks about the debris of history, fabricating a story based on an illustration that is part the “Boxer Codex”, a manuscript written c. 1590, which contains illustrations of ethnic groups in the Philippines at the time of their initial contact with the Spaniards. Naturales which means “local”, is about the voyage of a man and a woman, maybe lovers, husband and wife, king and queen who happen to meet in different time zones through reincarnation. The setting was shot in Tondo a district of Manila located near the bay and Pasig river and considered to be the most densely populated district in the city. Historically, Tondo was an Indianized Kingdom which was recorded a text “Tundun”in an inscription called the Laguna Copperplate 900 CE.
