“My first life” is a documentary by Mexican director Carlos Hernández on Saharan refugee camps in Argelia. In 2005 he made a trip to the camps in order to know the Saharan baptism ritual. The documentary shows the baptism surrounded by encounters, songs, welcome rituals and parties, as well as the birth of a child. Focused on the essential aspect of giving life and coming into the world, the images take us to a universal sense of belonging, group and survival. He deals with the territory and identity construction strategies in extreme circumstances which have unfortunately become something daily and transgenerational.

The soundtrack is composed by the art and music collective Menhir, who also visited the camps during the meeting ARTifariti 2016.
