Yasmine El Meleegy
Artist
Cairo, Egypt
Yasmine El Meleegy is an independent multidisciplinary artist based in Cairo, Egypt. Her work explores diverse media, including sculpture, video, and multimedia installations, exploring how power is articulated through objects.
Her work focuses on the representation of history and the past, material architecture, and reparation. Often drawing from intimate domestic spaces and the narratives they generate, she creates participatory installations and events to exemplify counter-narratives of cultural landmarks, such as Stephenson’s Pharmacy in downtown Cairo. Memory and reparation permeate her work as she explores the private and public spheres with her research methods through the creation of monuments and artifacts.
