Plinio Villagrán (Guatemala, 1979) is a Guatemalan plastic artist and painter (A2Foto, 2013).
Villagrán architecture and a degree from the University of San Carlos de Guatemala. He obtained an engraving scholarship at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, France, -2003-. Also, he graduated from the School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving «La Esmeralda» in Mexico -2006- (Juannio, 2015).
He was awarded a scholarship by the Program of Artistic Residencies for Creators of Ibero-America in Mexico -2009-, through the National Fund for Culture and Art -FONCA-. Resident artist at the Taller de Gráfica Actual -TAGA- in Oaxaca, Mexico -2009- (Juannio, 2015).
Villagrán was benefited by the Stimulus Program for the Creation and Artistic Development of Oaxaca from 2013 to 2014, as well as the Young Art Room project at the Museum of Oaxacan Painters in 2013 (Juannio, 2015).
He is a member and co-founder of the La Torana collective and the Taller Experimental de Gráfica de Guatemala -TEGG- (A2Foto, 2013).
It also obtained first place in the Young Painter Contest in Guatemala -2002- and third place in the IV Biennial of Latin American Graphics, in Buenos Aires, Argentina -2005- (A2Foto, 2013).
He is recognized for holding exhibitions such as “Zona Baldía” -2011- and “Interno-Externo” -2009- (A2Foto, 2013).
Villagrán’s art has been presented in private collections in Guatemala, Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica and in the Museum of Latin American Art MOLAA and in Long Beach California, USA, among others (Juannio, 2015).
