María Molina Peiró

María Molina Peiró is a Spanish audiovisual artist and filmmaker based in Amsterdam, whose practise stands at the intersection between cinema, contemporary art and research. In her work she explores layered relationships between history, technology and nature through and hybrid form (fiction, documentary and experimental). She is particularly interested in memory systems (from geology to digital memory) and the relation between cinema and science.
Her videos and video installations have been shown internationally in art centres such as Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), MACBA (Barcelona), Louvre Museum (Paris), Washington National Gallery, MMCA National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul), Hong-Gah Museum (Taipei), Vilnius National Gallery, EYE Film Museum (Amsterdam), ISEA Korea, London Science Museum, MATADERO (Madrid), Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina, TAIWAN Contemporary Culture Lab and CCCB (Barcelona) amongst others.
Her films have been shown at film festivals such as International Film Festival Rotterdam IFFR, Rencontres Internationales, BFI London Film Festival, International Film Festival Oberhausen, Krakow Film Festival, Indie Lisboa International Film Festival, Sevilla European Film Festival (SEFF), TIDF Taiwan International Documentary Film Festival, LOOP Videoart Festival, Beijing International Short Film Festival, Bogoshorts International Short film Festival, VIS Vienna Shorts or Curtocircuito Film Festival among many others.
María holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Sevilla and graduated Cum Laude from the Master of Film at the Netherland Film Academy. Molina Peiro’s work has been supported and awarded in the last years with grants like Amsterdam Funds for the Kunst (3 Package Deal) and prizes like AHK award (Best master project at Amsterdam University of the Arts), Kassel Dokfest, Vienna Shorts, Videoformes, Curtocircuito Radar award, Imagine Science Award, Aesthetica Art Prize finalist (UK), or Madatac Jury Award among others. María Molina Peiro´s has participated recently in residency programs at Museum Quartier Vienna and Santa Fe Art Institute.
Her films are distributed and part of art film collections like EYE Film Institute, LIMA Collection, HAMACA or Cinesud.
Beyond her art practice Molina Peiró has worked as a lecturer of artistic research through cinema at the Netherlands Film Academy.
