Alfredo Esparza Cárdenas (Mexico, 1980)
He holds a Master’s degree in Humanistic Studies with a specialization in History from the UV at ITESM (2008). He graduated from the Contemporary Photography Seminar at the Centro de la Imagen in 2012.
Solo exhibitions include: Tierra de nadie at Galería 1mes1artista in Mexico City (2018), Terra Nullius at Ramskram Gallery in Reykjavík, Iceland (2018), Este camino no es at Galería L, Mexico City (2017), and Ruptura y estantíos at the Museo Casa del Cerro in Torreón, Mexico (2007).
He has participated in group exhibitions in countries such as Iceland, Colombia, Italy, Spain, the United States, Argentina, and Mexico.
He was a winner of the 7th edition of Latin America Fotografía by AI-AP (2018) in New York, USA; selected for the 18th Photography Biennial of the Centro de la Imagen (2018) in Mexico City; received an honorable mention in the Visible Memory competition in Medellín, Colombia (2018); and was a finalist and special prize winner in the Third Contemporary Photography Contest (2017) in Monterrey, Mexico.
He completed two artist residencies in Iceland in 2017: one at Listhús (Ólafsfjör›ur) and another at Fish Factory Creative Centre (Stö›varfjör›ur). In 2011–2012, he participated in an artist residency at 357 Estudio Creativo in Tlalnepantla, Mexico.
From 2012 to 2015, he worked at the National Museum of Popular Cultures, where he served as head of the exhibitions department. He was also co-founder of “Sin Perder De Vista” (2015–2017), a monthly talk series at Cine Tonalá (Mexico City) on photography production and consumption in Mexico.
His work is part of the collection of the Inter-American Development Bank.
He lives and works between Torreón and Mexico City.
