Dove of Peace

The video ‘Dove of Peace’ is inspired by a poem by the Austrian poet Hilde Domin. In the poem ‘I want you’ Hilde Domin speaks of freedom. She wants to roughen up the word ‘freedom’ with sandpaper, so that it is not licked by everyone. To the point of unrecognizability.

In the last passage of this poem, Hilde Domin refers to Confucius. Because, if the language is not right, what is said is not what is meant.

Just as a bowl is called round and not square. Just as prison is called prison and not protective custody. Just as murder is called murder and not special operation. Just as solidarity is called solidarity between people standing up for each other and not as a decree from above. Just as freedom is called freedom and not arbitrariness. Just as weapons are called killing machines and not bearers of peace…

Domin said in an interview: ‘Every slightest shift between the word and the reality meant by the word destroys orientation and makes truth impossible from the outset.’ There is nothing more to say.
