Fun Facts of Movie

This film was shot in Isla Cristina’s marshes and shores, on the border between Spain and Portugal.

“Relato” is a made-up story based on the name of a salt-exploitation site in this coastal village: Salinas del Alemán. The story tells the arrival of a mysterious sailor at the village of Isla in the search for the love of a beautiful woman called Tamara. The blond and pale “German” is actually a troubled Dutchman, cursed for many centuries, whose only cure is the dying love of a woman.

The text is a free adaptation of the opera “The Flying Dutchman” (Richard Wagner, 1841) and the film “Pandora and the Flying Dutchman” (Albert Lewin, 1951), which includes Andalusian stereotypes related to the seafaring world. Between the years 1960 and 1970, the philosopher, sociologist and historian Michel Foucault (1926-1984, France) coined the concept “Biopolitics”, which questions the boundaries of power and discusses individual liberties.

The piece is a reflection on the importance of the narratives and how easy it is to manipulate them for the sake of altering the course of events and creating new realities.
