Fun Facts of Movie

In opposition to the usual practice in cinema of hiding and masking the cuts of a film piece, in this project I seek to show the opposite: the structure, the editing, the skeleton are captured. Based on one of the most iconic films of experimental cinema —Meshes of the Afternoon (1943) by Maya Deren—, I make different formal versions of this same film without altering its duration. Meshes of the Film is conceived as an audiovisual installation in which Deren’s film materializes in light and darkness, stillness and movement, time and space, sound and silence. The structure of the film is not only manifested through the videos on television screens and mobile devices, but there is also a transfer of the cinematographic medium to the exhibition space itself. The 188 cuts that the film presents are distributed along the wall at different distances, proportional to the real time of each shot.
