Rubén Darío Díaz Chávez, (Quito – 1982). Contemporary artist/Researcher. Diploma in Business Management from the Australian Institute of Commerce and Language, Sydney – Australia. Bachelor of Visual Arts from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and Master’s Degree in Cultural Studies with a Major in Arts and Visual Studies from the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, campus Ecuador.
Founder and member of independent art project No Lugar – Contemporary Art, founder of Rights for Artists, project that seeks ethical and fair work conditions for artists in Ecuador, founder of Ripanu, project that protects the Sapara territory from oil exploitation in the oil block 79 and collaborates with the Sapara Nation, an Amazonian indigenous population that faces the risk of disappearing.
His work has been exhibited both in and out of the country, such as the National Museum, Contemporary Art Center, Art Process, Alianza Francesa, No Lugar (Ecuador), Gala Hispanic Theater, and Flatland Gallery (USA), Rum46 (Denmark) , Contrast Galleria and H20 Gallery (Spain), La Pan Galeria (Chile), Libertaria Foundation (Argentina). He has also conducted several researches related to Quantum Realism from a holographic perspective, independent-emergent latin american projects, and the Sapara culture.
He is a recipient of the national award from the Ministry of Culture to develop Pulse, a project that represented emerging artists from Quito and Guayaquil; research funds from the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, campus Ecuador; an artistic research grant from Fundación Jumex – Arte Contemporáneo to rescue the Sapara language. He won the Lush Spring Prize to carry out a project to defend the Sapara territory; Charity fund awarded by Lush. I have perfomed for the American artist Suzanne Lacey for her project «In your handwriting», which was a video performance about violence against women in Ecuador and collaborated with the british artist David Rickard on his project «International Airspace».
