She belongs to the generation of the great Spanish women gallery owners. Oliva Arauna opened her gallery in Madrid in 1985 to bring a contemporary vision to the Spanish art scene through photography, video and installations. A pioneer in the promotion of the most innovative and radical artistic practices, in 2004 she opened a new space in which to house larger-scale projects. She is a founding member of the following associations: Arte Madrid, Consorcio de Galerías de Arte Contemporáneo, Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo (IAC), Mujeres en las Artes Visuales (MAV) and for eight years she was a member of the Organising Committee of ARCOmadrid. After 30 years working, she closed her gallery and now continues as a collector and collaborates with various cultural institutions. Faithful to his commitment to the most innovative aspects of art, he continues to seek new ways of approaching artistic practice with various projects, because «the world has changed and we have to change with it», as she says.
