Margarita Aizpuru Domínguez (Madrid, March 21, 1960) is a feminist curator, critic and researcher of contemporary Spanish art specialized in new trends, art, gender and feminism. She has been awarded the MAV Award, Women in the Visual Arts 2018 in the category of art critic and theorist.
Margarita Aizpuru works in new media such as video art or performance, interested in the role of women in the art world. The gender perspective is present in most of her works, such as the exhibition «Carrera de fondo» Sevilla (2005) with works by the most outstanding artists of contemporary art, some of her curated as «Albur de amor» (2012) from the Mexican artist Teresa Serrano at the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or at «Arte e Gênero: representação da identidade feminine», by the Brazilian Beth Moysés and the Spanish Marisa González, at the Instituto Cervantes de Säo Paulo, both from 2012.
She has directed the «International Art and Gender Encounters» for more than a decade and assiduously teaches courses as a teacher on curating contemporary art, audiovisuals, performance, photography and art and gender.
She has collaborated with different magazines specialized in contemporary art and assiduously writes texts for art publications.
She was the creator of the feminist video art cycle «Feminis-Arte» that she has developed over the last few years in different venues. In 2013 she curated «Feminis-Arte» in the context of the Miradas de Mujeres Festival organized by the association MAV Mujeres en las Artes Visuales, of which she is a founding member and member of the Advisory Council. In 2016, she curated the video art exhibition, photography and installations «Feminisarte IV: Women and generic aesthetic narrations» in the rooms of the Centro Cibeles Center, in the Cibeles Palace in Madrid with relevant artists such as Marina Núñez, Paloma Navares, Marisa González, Teresa Serrano, Beth Moysés, La Ribot, María Cañas with the Biennial Miradas de Mujeres de MAV. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo IAC.
