Madrid. 1987. She is a photographer, director of photography and video artist. She currently lives and works in Berlin. Graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid in Advertising and Public Relations, and Audiovisual Communication. He then completed the EFTI international master’s degree, specializing in Conceptual Photography and Artistic Creation, as well as a specialized course on cinematographic narrative lighting (film photography direction).
Light is in fact a significant element of Irene Cruz’s work, leading her to explore and experiment with it mainly in northern European countries.
She already has more than 400 exhibitions of photography, video art and video-installations around the world on her curriculum (highlighting places such as the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the BBAA circle or the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid, La KunstHalle or the Deutsche. Oper in Berlin, Project Art Space in New York, the MUA in Alicante or the Da2 in Salamanca). She has also participated in various fairs such as ARCO or Art Madrid, Positions (Berlin), Art Basel, Photo Basel … Also, last April 2017 Irene Cruz was the guest artist and image of the La Quatrieme Image photography festival in Paris.
It has won important awards such as the accessit of Phototalents from Fundación Banco Santander in 2010, the second prize for Photography Fundación AENA, the first prize at the II CFC-Iberdrola Photography Contest in 2014, and the prize for best piece of Video art from 2014 by the international platform Elmur.net.
She gives classes and seminars at specialized schools and at Universities such as the Complutense in Madrid, at the UAL in London, at the University of Darmstadt, and at the Freie Universität in Berlin, among others.
She has participated in the Photoespaña festival without interruption since 2012 in various galleries and centers. She has also been awarded as the Emerging Artist with the most international projection by Why on White’s specialized jury, made up of the most important gallery owners and cultural managers of the moment. Irene has also finished her first feature film as a cinematographer: «Diana» under the direction of Alejo Moreno, which has been on the bill for 9 weeks in various Spanish cities, in addition to going through festivals such as Malaga, Montreal, Paris, Bahamas, Seminci, Abycine and Huelva. The film has already been released in cinemas in Germany, Poland, Portugal, and next July it will do so in the US.
Irene Cruz also has works in important national and international collections.
