Gabriel Abrantes, born in North Carolina, United States, in 1984, is a filmmaker whose works have premiered at prestigious events such as the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs and Semaine de la Critique at Cannes, Berlinale, Locarno Film Festival, the Venice Biennale, and the Toronto International Film Festival. His films have received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at the Semaine de la Critique, the EFA Prize at Berlinale, the Golden Leopard at Locarno Film Festival, and the EDP Young Artist Award. His artwork has been exhibited at renowned institutions such as the Whitechapel Gallery and Tate Britain in London, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the MIT List Visual Arts Center in Boston, the Kunst Werke in Berlin, and the Serralves Museum in Porto. He has participated in the 32nd São Paulo Biennial, the 2016 Bienal Tropical, and the 2014 Bienal d’Image Mouvement. Retrospective screenings of his work have been held at the Lincoln Center in New York and BAFICI in Buenos Aires. Currently, he resides and works in Lisbon.
