Carlos Aires
Artist, Fine Arts, Research
Ronda, Málaga, Spain

Lives and works in Madrid.

He was born in Ronda, Málaga, in 1974. Carlos Aires does not believe in vocation, he believes in work, perseverance, research and, to a lesser extent, luck. In his family there was no artistic tradition, even during his time as a high school student he made the specialty of pure science, so his knowledge of art history and philosophy was very elementary before attending the Faculty of Fine Arts. His first contacts with the great museums took place during his university studies.

He began his studies of Fine Arts at the Alonso Cano Faculty in Granada, and later studied in Tilburg, in the south of Holland, and in Belgium. After completing his degree, he extended his stay in the Netherlands thanks to one of the Manuel Rivera Scholarships for further artistic studies abroad, granted by the Granada Provincial Council in 2000. During his stay in Holland, he obtained the award that awarded by the De Pont Foundation, a private institution dedicated to contemporary art, which offers young artists the opportunity to live and work in a studio-apartment for a year, under the advice and support of the Foundation’s components.

The time that he was in Holland was worth him to achieve a remarkable personal and professional enrichment, since Central Europe is one of the most dynamic artistic regions in the world. It was a very productive period that led him to participate in various projects and exhibitions both in the Netherlands and in Belgium and Spain. He worked as an exhibition editor at the Pont Museum and collaborated with artists such as Rita McBride, Marien Schouten and Rosemarie Trockel. For a whole year he was personal assistant to Guido Geelen, a famous Dutch sculptor.

Drama and its opposite go hand in hand in the work of this artist. Both the conceptual and formal aspects fit perfectly, resulting in a really forceful work.
