Programmer, curator and filmmaker, Ángel Rueda is co-director and founder of (S8) Mostra International de Cinema Periférico in A Coruña (Spain), with a special focus on avant-garde cinema, film performance and moving image art.
In 2003, he founded the film collective Lili Films. During this period, he produced more than 20 films, in which he explored appropriation and performative cinema.
In his filmography, we find films like Bendita Calle, shot in Super 8 following the ideas of Vertov, El cielo en Super 8 and 50 años en el Andamio, a feature film about the revival of one of the main works of Spanish amateur cinema, El Andamio (1958, Rogelio Amigo).
In 2009 he founded the artist collective FDI, in which cinematographic devices were dismantled to give prominence to the audience as a crucial element in the creation process, and which will later evolve into the Creation Laboratory AA++, where he is currently developing research projects on film performance with Ana Domínguez.
As a programmer and curator, Ángel has developed curatorial projects in important art and cultural centers such as Brasilian Cinemateque (São Paulo – Brasil), Porto Alegre Cinemateque Brasil), Spanish Art Culture Center – CCE (Lima – Peru), Spanish Art Culture Center (Montevideo – Uruguay), Buenos Aires Spanish Art Culture Center – CECEBA (Buenos Aires – Argentina), Buenos Aires Modern Art Museun – MAMBA (Buenos Aires – Argentina), Curitiba Art Center (Curitiba – Brasil), MAR Museum (Mar del Plata – Argentina) and the main Spanish art and cultural centers such as MUSAC – Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, La Casa Encendida – Obra Socio Cultural de Caja Madrid, CGAI – Galician Film Archive, Cantabria Film Archive, GAIÁS – Fundación Ciudade da Cultura de Galicia, Pazo da Cultura de Pontevedra, MAC – Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Gas Natural Fenosa, Fundación Luis Seoane, Museo de Bellas Artes de A Coruña, NORMAL – Espacio de Intervención Cultural.
He has also been invited as an international judge at several international film festivals.
