A Clock

“A Clock” is a 24-hour video art piece; a complete recreation of Christian Marclay’s “The Clock” (2010). By combining thousands of film fragments from cinematic history that feature clocks or other timekeeping devices, a collage of a full day is formed, synchronized with the actual time at which the film is viewed.

The original work, a 21st-century masterpiece, is shrouded in mystery due to its scale and limited accessibility. “A Clock” seeks to dispel this enigma by using recreation (not literal copying, as “A Clock” is based on an Excel spreadsheet summarizing the films used by Marclay) as a mechanism for understanding, and by questioning the value of the copy and originality in the art world.

“A Clock” is curated by Pedro Gallego de Lerma with text by Miguel Sánchez Lindo.
