Venezuelan artist, poet, and programmer, pioneer of Digital Art, based in New York.

Yucef Merhi studied at the Central University of Venezuela and the New School University. He holds a Master’s degree in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University. His artistic career began in the mid-1980s. He was the first artist to use a video game console, the Atari 2600, to create and exhibit a work of art (1985). As a pioneer of Digital Art in Venezuela, Merhi has produced a wide range of works that utilize electronic circuits, computers, video games, touch screens, and other devices to present his written words. One example is the Poetic Clock, a machine that converts time into poetry and generates 86,400 different poems daily. The resulting works expand the limitations of the traditional context of poetry and language, proposing a new role for the poet in our culture.
