Shirin Neshat
Shirin Neshat (1957, Qazvin, Irán), vive y trabaja en EE.UU. desde 1974. Ha realizado exposiciones individuales en centros de arte y museos por todo el mundo, como el Museo de Arte Moderno de México DF, el Contemporary Arts Museum de Houston, el Walker Art Center de Minneapolis, el Espoo Museum of Modern Art (Finlandia), el Castello di Rivoli en Turín, el Dallas Museum of Art, el Wexner Center de Columbia (Ohio), el Art Institute of Chicago, la Serpentine Gallery de Londres, el MUSAC de León o el Hamburger Bahnhof de Berlín. Neshat también ha participado en la Documenta 11 (2002), la Bienal de Whitney (2000) y en 1999 ganó el León de Oro de la XLVIII Bienal de Venecia. En el 2009 fue galardonada con el León de Plata a la mejor dirección de la Mostra de Venecia por su película Women without Men (Mujeres sin hombres). También ha recibido reconocimientos como el Hiroshima Freedom Prize y el Lillian Gish Prize. En 2008, su exposición individual Mujeres sin hombres inauguró el ARoS Kunstmuseum en Dinamarca, viajó a la Galería Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo en Atenas y abrió el Kulturhuset Stockholm en otoño de ese mismo año. En la actualidad, Shirin Neshat está produciendo su segundo largometraje en torno a la vida y el arte de la legendaria cantante egipcia Umm Kulthum.

He has had solo exhibitions in art centers and museums around the world, such as the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Espoo Museum of Modern Art (Finland), the Castello di Rivoli in Turin, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Wexner Center in Columbia (Ohio), the Art Institute of Chicago, the Serpentine Gallery in London, the MUSAC in León or the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. Neshat has also participated in Documenta 11 (2002), the Whitney Biennale (2000) and in 1999 she won the Golden Lion at the XLVIII Venice Biennale. In 2009, she was awarded the Silver Lion for best direction at the Venice Film Festival for her film Women without Men. She has also received accolades such as the Hiroshima Freedom Prize and the Lillian Gish Prize. In 2008, her solo exhibition Women Without Men opened the ARoS Kunstmuseum in Denmark, she traveled to the National Gallery of Contemporary Art in Athens and opened the Kulturhuset Stockholm in the fall of that same year. Shirin Neshat is currently producing her second feature film about the life and art of the legendary Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum.
