Fireburnt cities: Kabul and other stories of the East

Doctors of the World’s missions in Afghanistan, in the cities of Kabul, Makaki, Zaranj and the surrounding areas, have tried to bring hope to a place where social analysts have described “at least tragic”. As O. Orphanos wrote in the magazine “Tachydromos” on the 21st of February in 2002, “The Greek “Doctors of the World“, in their voluntary effort to offer a helping hand to the “Afghan patient”, are travelling to the modern crustacean of the world, in order to prove in practice that hope is the strongest antibiotic”. All the photos are a simple capture of the moment in Afghanistan, where Yannis Mouzalas recorded with his camera without second thoughts and with the smile of the man who came to offer.

The photographs present a capture of an apparent perfection of emotions, but behind this perfection, on a second glance, we discern a new arrangement of space that initially escapes us, consisting of disparate factors such as threat, desolation, tragedies, forced migration, struggle for survival, and death.

The synthetic world

What is the field between the physical and the synthetic world? The only certainty is that we will encounter a turbulent world-a balance of chaos-a cloud of noise and uncertainty.

The use of three-dimensional computer techniques meticulously and with great precision transfers, three-dimensional points consisting moving clouds of an entire area of buildings that have suffered temporal deterioration similar to the temporal distance that separates us from the events described in the photographs of Afghanistan.

The representational system submitted is the computational promise between two points where they are intricately connected to instantaneous sensation. The transitional stage explored by the tracing algorithm is the conceptual framework that the work deposits to the viewer.

All the photographic material was provided by Doctor Yannis Mouzalas.
