2010Synopsis:
The work self-reflexively explores issues of voyeurism, objectification and surveillance as discursive practice. The project explores disruptions and fixtures in the video gaze and its relationship to the human body. In a world of shrinking geographies and increasing mobile image technology, processes of spectatorship appear to be “directed” in some sense. The nature of this “directedness” raises many questions about the explicitness of ‘looking’ and its penetration of public and private space. The project develops experimental sequences that evoke the decaying gaze and body, providing opportunities to explore visual processes between lens and subject, self and ‘Other’.
