Nació en la ciudad de Kamakura, prefectura de Kanagawa en 1976. Se graduó en crítica de arte en la Facultad de Letras de la Universidad de Ritsumeikan. Inspirado por el cine de vanguardia y el videoarte, inició la producción cinematográfica en 1997.
