The one channel video is based on a diary written by Hassan Murtada. After a 23 year interval, Murtada writes in his diary again for the first time. The entry is prompted by Hassan’s encounter with himself among a crowd in one of the paintings installed on a wall of a museum. After he immigrated, he no longer felt nostalgia for his past, and he did not take any photographs of himself, which compelled him to doubt his own memory: might it be a forged memory since it lacks material evidence to prove it? The work examines the relationship between memory and trauma, immateriality and archive. Through the narrative, sound and the black screen, the video attempts to generate immaterial visuals of the events that Hassan has encountered.
Este video monocanal se basa en un diario escrito por Hassan Murtada. Después de un intervalo de 23 años, Murtada vuelve a escribir en su diario por primera vez. La entrada es provocada por el encuentro de Hassan consigo mismo entre una multitud en una de las pinturas instaladas en la pared de un museo. Después de emigrar, ya no sentía nostalgia por su pasado, y no tomó ninguna fotografía de sí mismo, lo que lo obligó a dudar de su propia memoria: ¿podría ser un recuerdo falsificado ya que carece de evidencia material para demostrarlo? El trabajo examina la relación entre memoria y trauma, inmaterialidad y archivo. A través de la narrativa, el sonido y la pantalla en negro, el video intenta generar imágenes inmateriales de los eventos que Hassan ha encontrado.
