A staircase that separates Hanane El Farissi’s living space and working space is both, the object and subject of focus of this video. In fact, with La Singla, Hanane El Farissi captures the musical rhythm of going back and forth, feet coming up and down like a military discipline. The industrial metallic staircase affecting and defining the movement of the body interconnect a simplicity and complexity that echoes the practices of Marcel Duchamp, Gerhard Richter and Antonita La Singla. Thus, the video becomes an opportunity to contemplate a body in relation to this object, a body in motion, a body in life, in rage or in a trance of wonder.
Hanane El Farissiis a multidisciplinary artist. She is born in 1990, in Skhirate, Morocco. She lives and works between Brussels and Rabat. Hananeworks on thematic related to memory and the construction of the individual, by placing body, body-image, and their relation to objects at the heart of her practice. She says “My work is a reflection on memory and daily life, which can sometimes be bothersome. I am in a quest for something staggering, and I turn it into simple and profound actions of our experience or our life. From the intimate to the universal, I always ask and re-ask the questions that haunt me.”
