Jennifer Allora (1974, Filadelfia, Estados Unidos) & Guillermo Calzadilla (1971, Habana, Cuba) han desarrollado una práctica experimental e innovadora que aborda los vínculos entre historia, ecología y geopolítica, a través del uso de múltiples medios que incluyen escultura, fotografía, performance, pintura, sonido y video.
Desde el inicio de su carrera colaborativa en 1995, Allora & Calzadilla han realizado exposiciones en algunos de los museos más importantes a nivel internacional, entre ellos: Museum of Modern Art, Nueva York; The Serralves Museum, Oporto, The Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlín; The Menil Collection, Houston; Serpentine Gallery, Londres; the Castello de Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Turín; The Walker Art Center, Mineápolis; MAXXI, Roma; Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; Haus der Kunst, Múnich, The Stedelijk Museum, Ámsterdam y Dia Art Foundation, Nueva York. En 2011, representaron a Estados Unidos en la 54ª Exposición Internacional de Arte de la Bienal de Venecia con el proyecto Gloria, una crítica performativa de las narrativas y símbolos que se entrecruzan en el nacionalismo político, cultural y económico de Estados Unidos.
Allora & Calzadilla viven y trabajan en San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Jennifer Allora (1974, Philadelphia, USA) & Guillermo Calzadilla (1971, Havana, Cuba) have developed an experimental and innovative practice that addresses the links between history, ecology and geopolitics, through the use of multiple media including sculpture, photography, performance, painting, sound and video.
Since the beginning of their collaborative career in 1995, Allora & Calzadilla have exhibited in some of the most important museums internationally, including: Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Serralves Museum, Porto, The Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin; The Menil Collection, Houston; Serpentine Gallery, London; the Castello de Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Turin; The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; MAXXI, Rome; Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; Haus der Kunst, Munich, The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and Dia Art Foundation, New York. In 2011, they represented the United States at the 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale with the project Gloria, a performative critique of the intersecting narratives and symbols of American political, cultural and economic nationalism.
Allora & Calzadilla live and work in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
