Journey into Mystery<\/strong>

Although Taiwan is the origin of Austronesian Populations which can be dated 5200 years ago, written-history of Taiwan only appears for several hundred years. Looking back to the modern history of the small tropical island, one can find the fusion of many different cultures, both ethnographically and linguistically. In the three short videos I chose for PROYECTOR 2019 this time, three artists Chia-Wei HSU, Yu LIU and Pei-hsuan Wang share the narratives reflected to the timeline of modern Taiwan history. Colonialism, Post-war, Immigrant issues, all the syndromes that influences the island, have become the journeys in artists\u2019 films. While all the journeys that led by the retrospective of a place, can only indicate to unknown futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taiwan International Video Art Exhibition and Honggah Museum<\/strong>
Chew\u2019s Culture Foundation established Hong-Gah Museum in 1999. With exhibitions, campaigns, inter-disciplinary performances, the Museum provides an art appreciation venue of quality as well as sows seeds of art for the local community. Hong-Gah Museum has long been devoting itself to educational courses and lectures to promote aesthetic education in the community. On top of that, it serves as a platform for the showcase of contemporary art via regular themed events such as the biennale \u201cTaiwan International Video Art Exhibition\u201d and solo exhibitions of artists from home and abroad. TIVA starts in 2008 and is the pioneering event in Taiwan to promote video arts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

VIDEOART CENTER Tokyo\/VCTscreening program\u201cThe Lost Decade\u201dVCT was founded in 2001 as an association dedicated to videoart and other time based arts in Japan. VCT is managed independently as a Non-Profit Organization by videoartists and the staffs who consider it\u2019s necessary to establish a critical role of the videoart of the present against the society of spectacle. As recent activities, VCT took part in \u201c50th Anniversary of Video Art \/ Les Instant Video2013\u201d (2013, Marseiile, France), and worked on a documentary video project with oral history of early video artists in Japan, \u00abKikai de Mirukoto=Eye Machine\/To See by Chance -the Pioneers of Japanese Videoarts-\u201c(2012, 82min.),also presented open air video art show in urban spaces, as \u201cVideo Art Promenade in ASAGAYA\/ Wall to Wall\u201d(2015, Tokyo). 5 videoartists who mainly work on single channel video, video performance, video installation, take part in this program. They are from so-called \u00abY generation\u00bb, never daunted their spirit to criticize today\u2019s technology, society and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIndus art Collective\u201d is an establishment that has been based on a view of interaction through \u2018Culture\u2019 as instrument for social transformation and change.
The groups of artists from different creative platforms intend to help and promote artists and their activities, creating new openings and opportunities. And thus bridging the parameters with cities as well as villages and other provinces and countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As in recent years\u2019 objectification and commoditization deprived\/ restricted art practices from performing its larger social roles as agents of transformation and critical reflection. Rather than promoting aesthetically desirable objects, art should be understood as a healing practice which allows the human mind to decipher and reorient.  It is imperative to mention here that Indus will enable artist to shift towards community oriented collaborations that challenge conventional values enshrined in art and open further possibilities of greater integration of art into social fabric, reflecting, to realize \u201cA BOUNDARY WAS NEVER THERE\u201d  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program that Indus wants to instill is to give awareness of visual knowledge through workshops and art shows for cities and villages. Its objective is to connect and communicate with anyone and everyone, encompassing a global awareness of art that further allow us to interact with artists from other countries. And also to bring art out of its confined modes and to present it publically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnatomy of silence\u201d is a selection of Greek video art, which gathers visual works that silently but sharply comment on human existence, through strong symbolic images and minimalistic actions. Curated by Gioula Papadopoulou<\/a>, the selection, which features 9 video works by acclaimed and emerging video artists from Greece, was initially screened in the frame of Video Art Miden 2018 in Kalamata, Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Video Art Miden <\/strong>is an independent organization for the exploration and promotion of video art. Founded by an independent group of Greek artists in 2005, it has been one of the earliest specialized video-art festivals in Greece, setting as basic aims to stimulate the creation of original video art, to help spread it and develop relevant research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through collaborations and exchanges with major international festivals and organizations, it has been recognized as one of the most successful and interesting video art platforms internationally and as an important cultural exchange point for Greek and international video art. Miden screening programs have traveled in many cities of Greece and all over the world, and they are hosted by significant festivals, museums and institutions globally.

Liminal Spaces 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are in an age of conflicting truths and dialectics. Many of the frameworks of our modern existence are in a state of ambiguity. As we negotiate our darkest fears and uncertainties, we embrace the unknown. The traditional Hegelian dichotomies are, in many ways, dissolving around us. The spaces of left and right, blue and red, worker and owner, global and local\u2026become easier to transcend. The only place to hide from the destruction is in the middle, a place away from the binary\u2026 a state, if you will, of deterritorialisation. We will hide in the \u2018in-between\u2019, the \u2018in-betwixt\u2019\u2026 the liminal space.
\u201cLiminal Spaces 2019\u201d, curated by Cristobal Catalan, is a selection of video art from innovative and emerging artists from South East Asia that look epistemologically at the discourse of a world increasingly located in the liminal.
The selected works from Mark Salvatus and Pham Ngoc Lan are reconstructing the landscapes of resistance, using the liminal space with new approaches and perspectives in modern video art from South East Asia. The works explore disruptions and fixtures in a world of shrinking geographies, place and race as discursive practice. History, perspective and technologies are \u201cdirected\u201d in some sense. The nature of this \u201cdirectedness\u201d raises many questions about the explicitness of \u201clooking\u201d and its penetration of public and private space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
