{"id":9864,"date":"2025-07-16T14:38:43","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T12:38:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/proyector.info\/profile\/claudio-correa\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T14:49:01","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T12:49:01","slug":"claudio-correa","status":"publish","type":"person","link":"https:\/\/proyector.info\/en\/profile\/claudio-correa\/","title":{"rendered":"Claudio Correa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past ten years, I have developed a body of work titled <em>If I Could, I Would Do It Worse<\/em>, in which I have researched and recreated various forms of institutional emblems and period utensils from the recent history of Spanish America. My visual language has been constructed from objects that are no longer in circulation and that form part of historiographical records. Through exhaustive documentary and oral research, I have rematerialized these objects, bringing into question the geopolitical and visual history of Spanish America within the context of Western modernity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through this effort, I reveal the power structures that dominate Latin American history across its various phases of Westernization. The results of my findings have taken the form of installations, sculptures, collages, and videos that appropriate elements of \u201cmonumentalist sculpture,\u201d characteristic of the \u201cmodern project,\u201d in order to disrupt this imaginary. My formal strategies subvert this iconography\u2014defined by symmetry, permanence, and stability\u2014by creating sculptural replicas and imbuing them with mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries, mainly in Latin America, Europe, and the United States, including: the 8th Havana Biennial, Cuba (2003); <em>Back Yard<\/em>, Americas Society, NY (2003); Shanghai Biennale, Project N11, China (2004); <em>Resistance, Fall and Madness<\/em>, ACC Galerie, Weimar, Germany (2006); <em>Era07 REGI\u00d3N: Fricciones y Fricciones<\/em>, Museo Blanes, Montevideo, Uruguay, curated by Gerardo Mosquera (2007); <em>Ni pena ni miedo<\/em>, MEIAC Museo Extreme\u00f1o e Iberoamericano de Arte Contempor\u00e1neo, Badajoz, Spain (2011); <em>De naturaleza violenta<\/em>, FLORA ars+natura, Bogot\u00e1, Colombia, curated by Jos\u00e9 Roca (2013); <em>Otros relatos<\/em>, Centro de Arte Contempor\u00e1neo La Consevera, Ceut\u00ed, Spain, curated by Fernando Castro Fl\u00f3rez (2015); <em>Bellos Jueves<\/em>, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentina (2015); and <em>Libertad, Igualdad, Fatalidad<\/em>, solo exhibition, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Santiago, Chile (2016).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout my career, I have received numerous recognitions, including grants from Fondart: Fondo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes, Government of Chile (CL, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018); Flora Ars Natura Residency (CO, 2013); Third Prize, Bienal de las Fronteras, Tamaulipas (Mexico, 2015); The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (NY, 2015); Solo Exhibition, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Chile (CL, 2016).
