Javier Olivera (1969, Buenos Aires, Argentina).At the intersection between various disciplines (painting, photography, video, installation, object, film) Javier Olivera approaches the relationship between memory and identity as a constructor of the individual and social being. He applies craft and technological know-how – obtained in the industrial field of cinema and TV – to a methodology of independent production in order to preserve an authorial discourse and guarantee a formal exploration. He studied painting in Argentina with Luis Felipe Noé and Eduardo Stupía, among others; film in the USA at the University of California (UCLA) and Ibero-American literature at the José Ortega y Gasset Foundation in Spain. In the field of film, he wrote and directed the fictional piece El visitante (1999) and the documentaries Mika, mi guerra de España (2013), La sombra (2015), La extraña and Notas sobre el (auto) exilio (2018).

He has directed fiction and documentary series for television in Argentina, Venezuela, USA and Spain. As a scriptwriter, he has written scripts, provided tutorials and collaborated in the development of feature film projects for production companies in Argentina, Brazil, Spain and the USA. He has given seminars and workshops on film and audiovisual arts in Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Cuba and Spain.
